Day ShiftThe Perioperative Materials Management Clerk is responsible for facilitating and implementing processes and systems for monitoring materials and inventory control for the Perioperative Services Department. Responsibilities include management of materials acquisition, receiving and distribution, and all ordering, networking with the OR specialty teams to insure that needed equipment and supplies are available; working with Biomed or other repair companies, r/t equipment needs; and all repairs and returns. Receiving freight and (preparation of purchase requisitions) are the primary responsibilities of the Perioperative Materials Management Clerk. Serves as a liaison between Materials Management, Sterile Processing Department, and Perioperative Services to insure effective and efficient management of supplies, instruments, and equipmentBegin

  • Assists in management of all aspects of Perioperative Services inventory, including but not limited to, ordering stock and non-stock items, receiving, and distribution

  • Sets up the storeroom, assures that all items are labeled and well organized. Maintains records of all purchases and standing orders

  • Assists in establishment and maintenance of PAR levels and reorder points for all items for the department in conjunction with specialty staff for each area of the department.

  • Involved in the yearly/bi-yearly physical inventory in conjunction with the Perioperative Materials Manager and Perioperative Computer Coordinator. Insures that the inventory is performed correctly and that counts are correct along with Materials Management Coordinator

  • Responsible for timely preparation, shipping, tracking, documentation and follow-through with repairs of damaged goods, instruments and equipment (repairs and returns). Coordinates loaner items when necessary. Accurately enters repair history into OR/MM shared file

  • Works with the Materials Management Department to report shortages, damages, and defective products

  • Procures selected surgical and medical supplies, implants, and small equipment necessary to support the needs of the department and physicians

  • Works with Material Management Department to insure that supplies including but not limited to, product substitution, emergency orders, and absence of product outages on critical supplies are available in coordination with Materials Management Coordinator

  • Collaborates with the Perioperative Services and Materials Management Coordinator to facilitate capital acquisition

  • Maintains current knowledge of materials management issues by participating in continuing education

  • Consistently Practices a system of stock rotation in storeroom and other stock locations

  • Demonstrates a high regard for dignity and worth of patients and their families

  • Demonstrates flexibility and excellent organization skills; high attention to detail

  • Assists with consolidation of items and inventory reduction strategies

  • Competently enters data into UDI GraftTracker

  • Utilizes LEAN principles in regard to organization and maintenance of entire storeroom and personal work area

  • Reports slow or non-moving items

  • Works to decrease inventory stock levels while maintaining adequate stock on hand

  • Communicate with OR Leadership Staff, Biomedical and Materials Management regarding repairs and returns

  • Notifies staff of back orders and shortages

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Education: High school graduate. Training in the operating room with additional education in business, accounting, inventory management and computers preferred. Associate Degree in business or related field preferred

  • Experience: Minimum of two years experience in the Operating Room, Central Service or Materials Management preferred

  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must demonstrate proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to create graphs, charts and run basic reports when requested

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving conflicting resources or priorities

  • Personal: Positive attitude and team player is essential. Ability to represent Southeast Missouri Hospital in professional and social settings within the facility, to outside vendors, and other professional contacts

  • Mental Demands: Must be organized and self-disciplined with attention to detail and accuracy. Must be independent and self-motivated

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
