Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking an experienced Aircraft Structures Mechanic to support aircraft modifications at Whiteman AFB, Missouri. In this position, you will be assigned to second shift and will perform a variety of aircraft structural operations such as locating parts, drilling various types of metals and composite materials, and installing brackets and structural components using a variety of fasteners and adhesives based on engineering drawings and process specifications. Your existing skills will be enhanced with specific aircraft structures coursework, on the job training, and certifications to perform work on the B-2 Bomber.
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
Must have a current DoD Secret security clearance with ability to maintain eligibility for additional clearances for continued employment.
Must have a understanding of concepts applicable to aircraft structural modifications, structural component installations and structural repairs to preserve structural integrity
Able to read and interpret assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions and procedures.
Able to setup and use a variety of precision measuring instruments such as: dial indicators, micrometers, gauges, and calipers
Able to maintain and use powered and non-powered tools and equipment such as: drills, reamers, de-burr tools, files, grinders, rivet guns, bucking bars, wrenches and torque wrenches.
Able to perform assigned duties while wearing required safety equipment
Able to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting, working overhead, and working from a ladder
Active DOD Secret Clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
Completion of A&P Certificate Program or Associates Degree in an applicable field
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Experience in repair of composite materials
Experience in application or repair of low observable materials
Familiarity with USAF technical orders and aircraft forms
Perform close tolerance assembly operations such as: shimming, fitting, trimming, and aligning where variances may occur considerably from one assembly to another as with fairings and the mating of major structural assemblies.
Assemble aircraft structures and associated components with the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, filing, honing, reaming, counter-sinking, de-burring and fastening.
